David Bloor is the director of the Science Studies Unit at the University of Edinburgh, (see Edinburgh School). He is generally regarded as one of three co-founders of the Strong Programme in the sociology of scientific knowledge (SSK), and more broadly, of science and technology studies.

Bloor began his academic career by studying philosophy, psychology, and mathematics at Cambridge; subsequently, he received a doctorate for his work in experimental psychology at Edinburgh University.
